What is a dongle?
A dongle is a hardware “key” that contains software license information. A dongle provides software copy protection and also allows software developers to activate software products and features as well as maintain and update software licenses.
Who needs to update?
If you are adding or updating software licenses, you need to update your dongle.
|If you have a Unikey dongle and you want to add or update software licenses:
- On a Windows machine, download and run the Unikey Assist program and choose “Basic Assist” to get the key’s Hardware ID number.
- Make sure your key is registered.
- You will receive an update file. Apply the update using the Unikey Updater Tool
||If you have an older HASP dongle and you want to add or update software licenses:
ASR Data used HASP dongles for many years and switched to Unikey dongles for version 2.x in 2010.
There were numerous technical and logistical reasons for making the switch and the Unikey dongles have proven to be more durable, more reliable, more flexible and easier to update. The Unikey dongles do not require proprietary drivers and “just work” on Windows, Linux and Macintosh computers and operating systems.
Version 2.x-32 bit tools are scheduled for end of life on December 31, 2016.
The tools will continue to be supported but new development will continue on 64 bit architecture only.
